Hospitality's Call

Even before I considered hospitality as a career, I knew I was in love with the feeling of helping others. During my time as a Statistics major, I was known among my peers as a tutor. It was a title I wore proudly, feeling great that my expertise was able to relieve somebody’s stress and enhance their day.

When I discovered hospitality, I realized I could pursue a career doing exactly what I loved – utilizing my passion in organization and planning to create the same impact; and as I entered this industry, I met the most warm-hearted and welcoming like-minded individuals who echoed my same dream. It is what keeps me drawn to this industry.

Now, I have fully integrated into hospitality with a Bachelor’s in HTM and plenty of work experience. In the process, I have learned how to better empathize with others and the intricate complexities of human emotion and interaction. I have also learned what leadership means to different people and what kind of leader I want to be for others.

I found that I shine brightest when numbers and logistics are involved. I had the most fun in my Project Management for Events class, where my coursework involved creating city profiles, venue and budget comps, project timelines, event budgets, diagrams, and webpages to name a few. I had a similar feeling in my Technology in Hotels course, where our daily learning objectives eventually culminated in our final project: creating a functional tech stack for a hypothetical brand-new hotel and resort. Something about curating even the smallest details makes me feel alive.

Needless to say, I have found my calling.
